Help maintain carbon reserves:

By managing forest areas, the carbon reserves stored in them are conserved by reducing the risk of fires, preventing the release of large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere. This helps reduce the greenhouse effect, contributing to mitigating climate change.

We need you to conserve the forests

The forest known as “Valdeavellano y Otros” with an area of 1846.7 ha is located in the province of Cuenca, within the municipality of Cañizares, and belongs to the ZEC/ZEPA “Serranía de Cuenca”. The forest is managed by the Mancomunidad de Propietarios Privados de Cañizares and is used by local residents as a recreational area, for leisure, and for scenic purposes, where it is common to find walkers. It is also used by herders in the area to graze their animals. is an activity practiced throughout the area under planning. The importance of this activity lies not only in occupying the leisure time of local hunters but also in managing game populations, especially ungulates (deer, roe deer, wild boar, fallow deer, etc.). Local residents make use of firewood from the wood cutting residues produced in the forest, as well as mushrooms, pine cones, and lavender. Since the primary use of the forest is protective and the applied silvicultural models are aimed at ensuring the perpetuity of the stands, the regeneration method applied is natural regeneration, promoting the germination and development of seeds from the species that inhabit the area. This forest is primarily composed of pine forests, notably Pinus nigra salzmannii and to a lesser extent Pinus pinaster. It also features other secondary species such as Quercus ilex and Juniperus communis.

The forest management carried out on the property meets FSC® certification standards, which ensures that it is done in a sustainable manner from environmental, economic, and social perspectives.
In the chosen area for carrying out the actions, silvicultural treatments will be performed, consisting of thinning and clear-cutting. The objective of these activities is to improve the health status of the stand, ensuring the persistence of future trees and reducing the potential risk of wildfires. Consequently, it ensures the maintenance of carbon reserves stored, by preventing their emission into the atmosphere as wildfire.
